Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the Institute of Technology in the year 2006 after getting approval from AICTE for an intake of 60 seats. His Excellency Shri K .M.Seth the then Governor and Chancellor inaugurated this Department on 26th July 2006. The department offers B.Tech.(Mechanical Engineering) and M.Tech. (Machine Design) programs with an intake of 75 and 23 respectively. The department puts lots of emphasis on such training of students as can bring out their inner capabilities and lead to their full growth and development. Enough emphasis has been put on their hands-on training for which the department has well-equipped laboratories, the theory of machines, strength of materials, heat & mass transfer, refrigeration, and air conditioning, and a central workshop. In M.Tech. program the students are admitted based on their GATE scores. The department offers Ph.D. programs also in different streams of Mechanical Engineering like Thermal and Fluids Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, etc. Our alumni are working at high positions in central government, state governments, and public and private sectors all over the nation and abroad. Our graduated students with B.Tech. and M.Tech. programs are taking admissions for their higher studies in IITs, NITs, and reputed foreign institutions. To promote in our students an acumen for quality research, knowledge-sharing and collaboration with industries and institutions for progressive and sustainable development of society.

Achievements of Department

Department of Mechanical Engineering at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidalaya, Bilaspur, in collaboration with the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) at the National University of Malaysia, has conducted the International Conference on Advances in Renewable & Green Energy Technology (ICARGET) 2023. It was successfully inaugurated on December 7, 2023. Generously sponsored by SERB India, NTPC, Sipat, and CSIR, New Delhi, the ceremony drew esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Guest Shri Ramnath Pujari, Chief General Manager of NTPC Sipat, Prof. Saidur Rahman, Professor and Head at the Research Center for Nano Materials and Energy Technology, Sunway University, Malaysia and Prof K. B. Sopian, Professor, Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
